A $10,000 dog?
Yes, that is how much Linde Chastain spent on her dog Buddy.
Here is Linde's e-mail.
"Our dog Buddy (a 6 year old Jack Russell) was diagnosed last August with Diabetes. He was drinking lots of water...then later vomiting...unfortunately we did not pick up on the first symptoms until it was critical. He did spend almost a week between his regular Vet and in the Emergency Hospital, and indeed it cost us about $1,100.00 plus just to start...and the costs go on.
Buddy is now about a $10,000.00 dollar dog with all the curve tests, insulin, urinalysis, special food, etc... He has also had a sonogram of his abdomen as at first they thought he may have had another disease...The only tests I think that is left is to biopsy his liver but we did not want to stress him further that day...and wanted to wait and see if it was really needed. He has lost some of his sight how much we do not know. We think he can see some. We want to have his cataracts removed as soon as the Specialist Doctor says we can. He is taking two shots a day, each at 8 units of Humulin. It is a terrible disease but you will do what you have to for your baby. We love him and he is part of our family... Thanks for getting the word out and what to watch for..."

Thanks for sharing your story Linde and I really respect your commitment to Buddy.
How much do you think you will spend on medical care for your dog over the next few years? $2,000 dollars, how about $5,000 or like Linde $10,000 dollars? That is why I recommend that pet owners take a look at pet insurance. You never know what is going to happen to your dog.

Also, remember that your dog may appear to be in perfect health now, but diseases like dog diabetes can strike at anytime. The most common signs of diabetes are drinking more, urinating more, weight loss and lethargy. If you detect any abnormalities in your dog, see your veterinarian. The tests to determine if your dog has diabetes are simple.
Until next time...

P.S. - I have a strong feeling that each and everyone of my Petplace subscribers will spend the money if their precious dog needed the medical care. But how many of us can afford it?
