Studies suggesting microchips may cause cancer have recently resurfaced. The Associated Press published a story about this recently. The story was picked up by the New York Times, ABC News and other major media sources.
As you may know, microchipping is a widely used and very successful method for identifying cats (and dogs). I do not want my Petplace subscribers to draw the wrong conclusions from these news reports so I have asked our columnist "the Irreverent Veterinarian" to research this topic and give you the straight facts.
Here is the report from the Irreverent Vet on Microchipping and Cancer in Cats. To read the full article and know the facts go to: petplace.com/do-microchips-cause-cancer.
We will keep an eye on this issue and give you new information as it becomes available.
Regards, Dr. Jon
P.S. Microchips are not just for dogs. They are more common in dogs but could probably give the biggest benefit to cats. So, if your cat has a microchip or you are thinking about micro-chipping your cat take a minute to read this article titled: "Do Microchips Cause Cancer in Cats?"
