Today, I want to talk to you about how to PREVENT scratching. There are several methods. I'm going to give you the link to another article that has very good tips on how to deal with furniture scratching. If you have a cat that scratches - check this out - Furniture Scratching in Cats

Here are some tips. Some ways you can prevent scratching is to cover the area with plastic. Most cats don't like to scratch the texture of plastic and will not bother the area. Another thing you can do is use sticky tape. Sticky tape is also a deterrent. There are some commercial available double-sided tapes made for cats that scratch that is clear and sticks to furniture.

Another thing you can do is odor neutralize the areas. Some cats scratch to mark territory and by eliminating any underlying scents can help deter the desire to scratch. You can use an odor eliminator product to help change any marking odors on that piece of furniture. That can diminish a cat desire to scratch. Remember, cats don't just scratch to sharpen their claws. If you understand why they scratch, then you can find ways to deal with it.

P.S. Keeping your cats nails short can also minimize damage to furniture. Over the last couple of weeks I have been telling you about a very cool new product for trimming your cat's nails.  - It is called PediPaws. Our Senior Veterinarian tested it on one of her cats and said, "B.C. (her cat) didn't mind it at all. I went slowly with him introducing it to him and giving him praise when he responded well. He tolerated it very well. This will definitely be how we trim his nails from now on".

So take a look for yourself, maybe this is just what you need to avoid catch scratches all over your house. For more information go to: pedipaws.com or click on the image below.
